Wendy Colonna
right where i belong

Louisiana diva Wendy Colonna is "not just a singer-songwriter, she's a force of nature…" (Michael Corcoran - Austin-American Statesman) – “a fiery beauty (who) has incredible stage presence and a voice that ranges from gravel to nightingale.” (Goleta Valley Voice - CA)

Her upcoming National release "Right Where I Belong" (in stores May 2, 2006) is already raising eyebrows in industry circles across the country.  It's a soulful journey, sticky with gulf-coast humidity and harmonies, but crisp and contemporary, a timeless collection of songs that make you shake it one minute and grab your hanky the next.  “In lyrics or in melodies, Colonna appears equally versatile.” (Offbeat Magazine – LA)

Wendy has been voted "Best New Artist, 2005" by Jody Denburg, program director at KGSR (Austin, TX) and was featured on WFUV (NYC) as a "must hear" on their New Years Day play list. Even preceding a national radio launch, Wendy is gaining support and airplay across the Southwest and Gulf Region, as well as markets as diverse as Florida, NYC and even the Virgin Islands!

The extraordinary attention is all the more notable because Wendy is hard to categorize – rock but with soulful underpinnings, folk but with infectious melodies, a singer/songwriter but backed by a who's who of Austin's finest musicians and session players. As hard to pin down as Sunday morning bliss and as energizing as a Saturday night buzz – don’t try to label it, just indulge in it.

Aside from her musical accomplishments, Wendy Colonna is a down to earth yet luminescent woman. Her past includes experiences in everything from teaching yoga to working with criminal teenage boys in a wilderness rehabilitation camp to waitressing in gentleman's clubs to working with women's and environmental advocate groups.  She’s been caked with mud, dusted with glitter, soaked in sweat and bejeweled with finery. In her music and in life Wendy balances her social awareness with a sharp tongue and goofy sense of humor.

Lake Charles, LA provided both the beauty and the tragedy that infused Wendy’s outlook in life. Raised there she saw the once flowering bayous now slicked with the slow death pouring from smokestacks and leeching from refineries – No Swimming, No Fishing, No Drinking. But her education came not from what was lost but from what endured - the beauty struggling up through the muck, the furious few who stood against the many, the segments of her community that refused to cave in to despair. It is this spine of resilience, this lesson of hope and triumph and courage, that runs through “Right Where I Belong.” These are love songs with their eyes wide open.

Wendy will be releasing "Right Where I Belong" Nationally on her own label "Pourquoi Pas? (Why Not?) Records” through Select-O-Hits Distribution on May 2, 2006.

“She has a knack for riding the line between joy and despair, euphoria and melancholy. As a vocalist she is sultry, passionate and very consistent.” -A-Town Records
